Volunteers at ONE CARE donate their time to provide essential services like Meals on Wheels and grocery delivery. They connect with isolated seniors with programs like friendly visiting over the phone and telephone reassurance to ensure our clients health and wellbeing.

ONE CARE is a community based, charitable, not-for-profit health organization local to Huron and Perth Counties. ONE CARE offers a wide range of essential services to improve quality of life of seniors and older adults with health challenges, as well as caregiver relief.

What our Volunteers do!

  • Friendly Visiting

    Volunteer visiting is a support program which matches a volunteer with a senior who is isolated, lonely or could just use a friend. The client and volunteer meet on a one to one basis and visit in the client’s home. These regular visits can include a telephone conversation, or enjoying activities outside the home.

    Time Commitment: 1 hour weekly.

  • Meals on Wheels

    Meals on Wheels ONE CARE, is more than a volunteer opportunity, we are a community. We depend on friendly, dedicated volunteers to fill many roles. Many positions are needed during our daytime office hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

    Meals on Wheels Volunteer Driver: Provides transportation to medical appointments, shopping, errands and social activities. Volunteer drivers must be ages of 18-80.

    Meals on Wheels Runner: Assists driver with the delivery of meals to clients.

    Time Commitment: On-call basis. Trips in town average 1 to 2 hours. Trips out of town average approx. 2 to 4 hours.

  • Telephone Reassurance

    Volunteers place telephone calls to reassurance clients each weekday at a prearranged time. Volunteers report back unanswered calls and any concerns.

    Time Commitment: 3 hours/month. Calls are made from the comfort of your home.

  • Volunteer Drivers

    The reason many of our programs are able to operate is because of our incredible volunteers. At this time, we are in urgent need of volunteer drivers to help our clients get to essential medical appointments and programs they need to stay healthy.

    Volunteer Driver: Provides transportation to medical appointments, shopping, errands and social activities. Volunteer drivers must be between the age of 18-80.

    Time Commitment: On-call basis. Trips in town average 1 to 2 hours. Trips out of town average. 2 to 4 hours.

  • Dining Program

    Help set up tables, serve food and clean up.

    Time Commitment: 2 hours monthly.

  • Volunteer Visitors

    Visit with a lonely client to read, talk or go for a walk.

    Time Commitment: 1 hour weekly.

  • Exercise Instructor

    Those with a passion for fitness are needed to lead hour-long gentle exercise classes. No experience necessary, all training provided by One Care.

    Time Commitment: 1 hour/week.

  • CHAP Peer Educator

    Volunteers are needed at CHAP sessions to measure. record client’s blood pressure and provide education based on their cardiovascular risk profile.

    Time Commitment: 4 hours/month.

  • Adult Day Program

    Volunteers assist clients at programs.

  • Special Events & Fundraising

    Volunteers are utilized to supervise promotional displays and assist with fundraising events.

    Time Commitment: Flexible – contribute during chosen events. Fundraising committee meets once/month.
